The 5th Legion Expeditionary - Update 3

"And His cohorts were gleaming in Blue, White and Gold"

So with the ladies nearly finished (for now) the focus shifts to the men of the warband. The doughty Men-at-Arms and the paragons of all that is good about Basilea; The Paladin Guard To paint up these I wanted something not shining silver but still glorious and regal so gold armour it is. I imagine that its merely gilded steel given golds absolute uselessness as armour material and it fits the bill that these warriors spend each night re-gilding their armour alone as part of their repentance and training (it also opens up some good scenarios where enemy brigands attempt to raid the supply train believing that the paladin armour is pure gold and want to get it). Then I wanted a new color to paint and thought about the demeanour of the paladins - cool, collected and in control - the opposite of their sisterhood counterparts. What color personifies that. Blue of course.

The robes were coated with an AP Ultramarine Blue, then washed with the AP Blue Wash, finally a highlight of 70/30(ish) AP UM Blue and white was applied and a final glaze of GW Guilliman Blue finished the robes. Once that was done the detail at the bottom of the robes was slightly hamfistedly picked out in skull white.

The boots and cover of the book were given a leather brown base before 2 washes the first of Reikland Fleshshade the second of Nuln Oil to give age and depth The steel was Ironbelcher (Boltgun Metal) with Nuln Oil wash and a Platemail highlight for parts.

The armour was a swine to paint. First coat was a mix of Dwarf Bronze and Fur Brown to give coverage. The second was a full coat of pure Dwarf Bronze, 2x Reikland Fleshshade washes - one overall and then one in particular areas - were applied for depth (I usually use a little purple in my gold for warmth but didn't this time, I might do that on the Champion) before a highlight of Shining Gold was popped on and then some Shining Silver additions were added to the armour and helm. Hope you all like it.
